selling on Gunbroker
Im thinking of listing a gun on gunbroker.com. Is it a royal pain? or is it fairly reliable and on the up and up? also is it a good place to get action on the gun? or am i better off in the local paper?

Re: selling on Gunbroker
We've always had great success selling on Gunbroker. It would be my first choice hands down. It is actually not that hard to do and reasonable user friendly. I would give it a try if I had the need to sell a firearm.

Good friend is an FFL. He uses it all the time..

Re: selling on Gunbroker
If I had to sell my gun collection (bite your tongue!) I would use gunbroker. I have a lot of "unusual" types of guns and I would never be able to get an appropriate amount for them if I only sold locally. Too limited.

Re: selling on Gunbroker
I have bought and sold quite a bit of acessories on gunbroker but no guns. Been thinking of listing my HK91 on there. I woulden't get much for it here in Nojobistan, everybodys unemployed.

Re: selling on Gunbroker
I've bought & sold a few weapons & accessories on GunBroker over the past 7+ years. Never any hassles, other than international users wanting me to go through the hassles to export pistols/rifles to a local dealer in their country. NO WAY.
A few suggestions: Take good pics of your item against a neutral background. All you need is a blanket or a nice clean section of carpet for this. Include an overall view of the item, as well as in-focus closeups. Yes, some folks will try to sell weapons using blurry pictures - that's a red flag for many buyers. Specify in your ad that the weapon must go to a licensed dealer for transfer. The buyer should be responsible for getting you a copy of the dealer's FFL. Some xfer dealers will refuse to accept weapon shipments from individuals & insist that it come from another FFL. If this happens, insist that the buyer pay any xfer costs on your end. Specify shipping costs in your ad. If you're selling a rifle, it should be fairly easy to ship via UPS or FedEx. If you're selling a pistol, expect to be raped on overnight-greedy-so-our-employees-hopefully-won't-steal-it shipping charges from UPS/FedEx. These can easily run $40++. Specify that payment & xfer FFL must be received by you within a set time frame (~1 week for payment, 2 weeks for FFL). Insure the shipment. If shipping a rifle, UPS prides themselves on their ability to snap rifle stocks at the wrist. Good luck! |
Re: selling on Gunbroker
bought a lot through gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com
i am using craigs list type of site a lot now that is seeing a lot of action in my local area http://www.gunlistings.org/ its like craigs list and seems to be growing in popularity nationwide and listings seem to be free |
Re: selling on Gunbroker
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE LAW. BTW - Please list what you're selling here, and I can tell you the legality of selling it to California residences. If it's a complete rifle, you're going to have to use an FFL.

Re: selling on Gunbroker
I've bought a number of weapons through gunbroker.com and it's mostly been a very positive experience. Kinda like eBay was back in the old days.
Some dealers do insist on receiving weapons from an FFL but there's no law requiring it. If you get their FFL in advance, there should be no reason you can't ship it to that FFL holder. |

I was really only thinking of the Federales and as far as they are concerned, a private citizen can still ship their weapon to an FFL or to a repair shop, for that matter, without needing an FFL to send it. ;-) |
Re: selling on Gunbroker

Please don't take this personal phideaux, but with that little, it's probably not even worth the shipping. 500 round+ usually makes the most sense. |

Re: selling on Gunbroker
I have sold on gunbroker and I have sold locally through messageboard ads. On gunbroker there's usually a buyer, even if it takes a few days. On the other hand, price competition can be stiff, and the different listing fees, along with the final sale fee, tend to eat into profits. With local FTF sales, I've usually gotten better prices on both guns and ammo, and there's no hassle of receiving the FFL and shipping off the goods. Still, gunbroker is convenient as a more systematic way to sell.

Re: selling on Gunbroker
I sell some guns on Gunbroker. Never had a problem and mostly got top dollar. I do not sell to California and state this in my ads. When/if the people that live there clean up their government I might re-think my policies. Always ship to an FFL and get a copy of the license. Make sure you only ship to the address on the FFLs license.
